Photo of the week

26 Oct

If I have a daughter, I will pull every string available to get her in front of celebrities in the hopes she freaks out and gives a photo opportunity I can (and will) use to tease her for the rest of her life.

I’m gonna be a great dad.

    “If I have a daughter…”

So, I’m assuming that you and Mrs. Broxey already know that you’re going to have a boy in the next month and you’re simply referring to the possibility that you’ll have a daughter in the future. Or are you waiting to find out at birth? Anyway, your post reminded me of a new event I recently learned about: the “gender reveal party.”

My wife’s friend recently was invited to one. The couple asked the doctor to determine the gender of their unborn baby, but they requested that the doctor put the results in an envelope (and hide the results from the couple). The couple took the envelope to a bakery and instructed the bakers to open the envelope, view the results, and make either a blue cake (boy) or a pink cake (girl). The cake was covered with white icing.

The couple then invited all of their family and friends to the “gender reveal party,” at which the couple cut through the icing to reveal blue cake (it’s gonna be a boy!).

I thought this was rather absurd. But it gets worse. Apparently, the couple already had a boy, and the wife had made it crystal clear to friends that she wanted a girl. When she discovered the blue cake, she was visibly upset. It was incredibly awkward for the guests.

We actually don’t know the gender, but we’ll find out soon enough. Also MY GOD that “reveal party” sounds brutal.
