Endorsed by B: three new bands I’m digging

Fitz & The Tantrums

What they sound like: Fun, uptempo, lots of horns. Let your ears imagine if Hall & Oates decided to put out a Motown record. Does that sound like a compliment? It’s supposed to be.

Song to get you started: “We Don’t Have to Work It Out.”

Portugal. The Man.

What they sound like: Remember the New Radicals? These guys sound like if the New Radicals dialed back the pop vibe, added a few layers to their sound and kept it accessible. Basically the artistic peak of what you thought the New Radicals could be, with zero queries regarding the emotional state of the “Titanic” captain.

Song to get you started: “Everything You See”

The Head and the Heart

What they sound like: Polished, earnest folk music in the Blitzen Trapper/Avett Brothers neighborhood, with more piano. Don’t like folk rock? Steer clear.

Song to get you started: “Down in the Valley”
