A perfect day to watch Jimmy Fallon impersonate Neil Young

3 Dec

As you can imagine, I get a shitload of emails from readers. The inbox is bursting, and has been for years. Most are flattering, a few bordering on the criminally obsessive.

And the rest? You guessed it: people clamoring for a video of Jimmy Fallon impersonating Neil Young singing the Fresh Prince theme song. “Where is it?” they ask. “When will this dream become a reality?” It was such an obvious wish, stated by so many hopefuls that it seemed too perfect to actually happen. Like the Arrested Development movie, or legalizing gay marriage.

Well, breathe easy folks, because shit just got real. The perma-smirk Fallon has made it happen. And to answer the obvious follow-up: yes, it’s as strange and cool as you think.

Smell you later.

That went on about three minutes too long but I give him an A for effort, even though effort begins with an E. I never understood that expression.

See, I’ve always gone with “E for effort,” and used it during a time when someone tried hard but achieved nothing. Since “E” is not a real grade, it’s basically saying “your effort was worthless.” In my world, it’s a phrase used in sarcasm.

I’ll admit, though, I may have conjured up this definition out of thin air.
