Wednesday swag

25 Aug

{+} I’m not sure whether to file this under “embarrassing” or “expected,” so I’ll let you make the call:

A new Public Policy Polling survey in Arkansas shows that only 45% of voters in the state say they believe President Obama was born in this country.

It must suck to be allergic to facts.

{+} Here’s a heartwarming story highlighting the do-gooder mentality of one of this fine country’s public servants: a Brooklyn city council member has spent months campaigning to have one of the subway stations named after pop singer and child diddler Michael Jackson. (To no avail, sadly.)

In a related story, apparently Brooklyn has no problems whatsoever, and thus has no issues with allowing 13-year-olds to join their city council.

{+} I’m just going to go ahead and include the mortifying quote and leave it up to you to click the link to read the specifics (though you won’t find much good news; the entire article sucks a fat one):

Swine flu could infect half the U.S. population this fall and winter, hospitalizing up to 1.8 million people and causing as many as 90,000 deaths.

I’m planning on remembering fall 2009 as either “the season where we had ‘surgical mask’ theme parties” or “the season where most of my loved ones died.” Should be an exciting time!

That strike thru font thing is vital to great blog retorts. I need to do some learning on font manipulation. Hints? FYI-I spent three days once in Arkansas for work and I can count on one hand how many teeth I saw (they do smile which is surprising) and only one was white.
