Advertising's greatest hits, pt. 1

Just wanted to point out … how great is KFC’s new “Unthink” tagline? That is sheer advertising perfection, as far as I’m concerned.

It’s like one of the KFC execs was sitting at his office desk, hands clasped behind his head and staring at the ceiling during a meeting with his ad agency and going, “Our sales are tanking, guys. The focus group research came back, and it appears that the most common time we lose customers is when they’re, well, thinking. Apparently they’re not huge fans of our “nutritional value” and our “menu” and our “food.” We’ve got to come up with a campaign to get them to stop thinking all the goddamn time.” And then one of the ad guys jumps off his seat and snaps his fingers, saying “I’ve got it!”

    Horrible. Don Draper needs to get down to those offices and sleep with someone before these geniuses strike again.

    What’s even more entertaining is that KFC and Taco Bell (“Think Outside the Bun”) share the same parent company (the ironically named Yum! brand). It’s only a matter of time before Yum!’s resident Ad Wizard blesses us all with a new slogan for Pizza Hut, the third prong in the company’s powerful fast food trident.
