miTunes: November '08

2 Dec

The premise: one CD’s worth of the best songs I’ve heard throughout the month.

The sources: The Current, Pandora, XM and various sites on the web.

The criteria:
(1) the songs have to be obscure, underground and/or mostly forgotten, and (2) they must be pop friendly.

The gist: I wade through music’s vast soundscape (listening nearly all day, every day) to discover the hidden pop gems. This is a monthly series devoted to bringing you songs that are universally appealing yet mostly unknown.

1. “Miserabilia” – Los Campesinos
2. “Toe Jam” – David Byrne w/ Dizzee Rascal (Obvs.)
3. “Sun Giant” – Fleet Foxes
4. “Record Year” – The Decemberists
5. “Around the Bend” – The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
6. “Undertow” – Stars
7. “Spaceman” – The Killers
8. “Psychotic Girl” – The Black Keys
9. “Let it Rain” – OK Go
10. “The Day I Lost My Voice” – Copeland
11. “Saved” – Devendra Banhart
12. “Into the Fold” – Cursive
13. “Living Proof” – Cat Power
14. “Everything” – Murs
15. “The Dark, Delirious Morning” – Chris Koza
16. “13 Months in 6 Minutes” – The Wrens

There are some days where The Black Keys really hit the spot.

RE: Black Keys. Excellent live band. Very loud.

Also responsible for one of the better music videos that I hear are popular with the youth these days.

Glad to know someone else likes the Wrens, too.

If you aren’t a fan of the Black Keys, listen to “10 a.m. Automatic” and get back to me.

Nice playlist, Brandon. That Devendra Banhart is one crazy son of a bitch but his whacky gypsy schtick sure woos the ladies (See Portman, Natalie).
