Ken Williams seems to think we're stupid

31 Jul

“Center field is actually the easiest outfield position to play.”

– Ken Williams, Chicago White Sox GM

I mean, sure, you have to cover about twice the amount of space, and throw the ball a lot farther on average, and your misplays will probably turn into triples rather than doubles. But, on the other hand, you get a sweet view of the pitch as it’s coming in. Talk about simple!

Should I give this guy the benefit of the doubt, and hope he was just trying to appease his fan base, curious as they must be about just where in the world 58-year-old Ken Griffey is going to play? Nah. It’s too dumb a statement. Let July 31, 2008 mark the day I lost what little respect I had left of Kenny Williams’ baseball intelligence.

If this was true then Manny Ramirez, Albert Belle, Gary Sheffield and Jose Canseco would all have been some of the finest centerfielders of the last 25 yrs.

My Little League coach had to play all the kids, no matter how horrible. Where do you think he hid me? In center.

Come on. You couldn’t have been that bad.
