Free Music Monday, volume 1

24 Jun

ipod.jpgIn what may or may not become a running feature here at the famous (amongst my family) WoB, I’ve provided a few links below directing you to some recommended free music. I’ve been trolling the web looking for tunes that might tickle yer fancy, and here is what I’ve been able to uncover. If there’s demand for it, I’ll turn this into a weekly thing. Enjoy.

“Never Say Never” – that dog

“Here’s Ya Getaway” – Jamie T (sounds like a cross between The Streets and Art Brut. Not for everyone, but fans of the aforementioned should dig it.)

“Intelligentactile” – Jesca Hoop

“300 MPH Torrential Outpour Blues” – The White Stripes (a track off the new album for those of you who haven’t yet picked it up.)

“Multiply” – Jamie Lidell (one of my favorite songs of the past decade; would be my theme song if there was any reason whatsoever for me to have a theme song.)

“Elevator Love Letter” – Stars (underrated band.)

“Oh I Feel Fine” & “Get Up and Go” – Polyphonic Spree

“A Day in the Life” (Beatles cover) – The Libertines (a reverent cover that will help ease the unending pain of being unable to buy Beatles music through iTunes.)

“Northern Lites” – Super Furry Animals (quirky carnival music with a touch of reggae.)

“When Did Your Heart Go Missing?” – Rooney

“Bring It On Home To Me” (Sam Cooke cover) – Spoon (Great cover of one of my five favorite songs ever.)

Any favorites? Have a listen and share your thoughts in the comments.

agree on the sam cooke and spoon thing.

for more beatles covers there is always the i am sam soundtrack, which is fantastic.

FYI – there’s also a piano version of multiply that i like, but i’m biased since i’ve been tickling the keys since a young age.

and thank you. it inspired me to think of cover songs that are equally or better than the original. there are quite a few, which begs the question: if you can make money as a cover artist why strive for originality?

you’ve got to listen to mutiply (in a minor key) if you haven’t already. (couldn’t get the link to work, maybe that was it, in any case, the whole album is pretty awesome.)
